Estepona, the private way
Start in the old town, where Estepona earns its name as the garden of the Costa del Sol. Every whitewashed lane hangs its flower pots in a single colour, so you turn one corner from blue into terracotta and the next into yellow, geraniums spilling over the walls and orange trees shading the Plaza de las Flores. Keep walking towards the newer streets and look up: enormous murals cover entire apartment façades, an open-air art route that stretches right across the town. It is a place to wander without a plan, coffee in hand, until you are ready to trade the bustle for a door that closes behind the two of you.
Then there is the water. The marina sits at the western end of town, fishing boats and the fish market on one side, sailing masts and café terraces on the other, and on Sunday mornings the quays fill with a rambling street market. From there the promenade runs east along Playa de la Rada for kilometres, flat, palm-lined and unhurried, with the Sierra Bermeja glowing behind you as the sun drops. Walk it before your session and you arrive with sea air on your skin and your shoulders already lower; walk it afterwards and the first cool of the evening feels like a reward.
What sets Estepona apart from Marbella, half an hour up the coast, is the volume. Fewer super-yachts, fewer velvet ropes, more families on the sand and neighbours who have known each other for decades. That residential calm is exactly why a private spa session works so well here: there is no scene to keep up with, only the two of you, a sauna at temperature, a warm pool and 90 minutes nobody else can walk into. Our favourite moments are the golden hour after a beach day, a rainy winter afternoon when the town is at its quietest, or the start of an anniversary evening. Pair it with a long lunch of grilled sardines by the port, a slow walk between the murals and dinner in a plaza in the old town, and let the suite be the still point in the middle.
